12/28/2023 0 Comments Volkswagen concept hover carMunich-based Lilium said in November it would set up its first US hub near Orlando, putting more than 20 million Floridians within range of its winged electric aircraft that can take off vertically and cover 300 km (185 miles). In addition to big players such as Volkswagen and Airbus, groups including US-based Joby, Germany's Lilium, and Volocopter, whose financial backers include Daimler and Intel, are pursuing such plans. The news comes as companies from start-ups to other global carmakers are racing to develop commercial "robo-taxis", hoping to cash in on a market Morgan Stanley says could be worth $1.5 trillion by 2040. China is the world's biggest autos market, and also accounts for the largest part of Volkswagen's sales. "Therefore we are investigating potential concepts and partners in a feasibility study to identify the possibility to industrialize this approach." In an interview with Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess on Linkedin, the carmaker's China head Stephan Woellenstein said the company wanted to develop a drone that could be licensed, giving it a way to participate in this future market. "Beyond autonomous driving the concept of vertical mobility could be a next step to take our mobility approach into the future, especially in the technically affine Chinese market," the German group said in a statement. Volkswagen Group China's partners on this project include Hunan Sunward Technology, a subsidiary of Sunward, a market leader in the light sport aircraft industry.HAMBURG: Volkswagen is conducting a feasibility study in China about flying cars, Europe's biggest automaker said on Tuesday, joining a growing number of companies looking into the potential technology. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China Our long-term aim is to industrialize this concept and, like a ‘Flying Tiger’, break new ground in this emerging and fast-evolving new mobility market.”ĭr. The launch of this stunning validation model – the V.MO – is the first of many remarkable milestones on our exciting journey towards urban air travel, and a perfect example of our ‘From China, For China’ mission. “This is a pioneering project which our young team of Chinese experts started from scratch – they are working with new design concepts and materials while developing new safety standards, disrupting and innovating every step of the way. ![]() In the first phase of commercial use, the drone will likely be marketed "as a premium product for high-net worth, tech savvy Chinese customers, for example for VIP air shuttle services," Volkswagen says. Volkswagen says it will conduct several flight tests later this year to optimize the concept before producing an improved prototype that will undergo further advanced test flights by late summer 2023. In its final iteration, the all-electric and automated eVTOL could eventually carry four passengers plus luggage over a distance of 200 kilometers (124 miles). It has an X-shaped wing with a span of 10.6 meters (34.7 feet) and it uses existing autonomous driving solutions and battery technology for emission-free mobility. Unveiled at Volkswagen Group China's headquarters in Beijing, the drone has eight rotors for vertical lift and two propellers for horizontal flight. The car will seat two persons, that can detect the congestion and emission free. The company gathered ideas from the residents of china and was interestingly amassed with 119,000 ideas, which included the Hover car concept. This initial prototype has also been nicknamed the "Flying Tiger" due to its distinctive black and gold livery that commemorates its launch in the Year of the Tiger. The concept was inspired from the People’s Car Project launched by Volkswagen in China. ![]() After intensive research, conceptual work and development, the project team finally has something to show for in the form of the first validation model, the V.Mo.
